New Books! All the News Fit to Print!

SHe's ba-a-a-a-ck!

Hello my friends! It’s been a hot minute. But I am revamping the site and there’s exciting stuff going on in my world, and I really really want to get back to blogging and sharing stuff more regularly.

So, pour yourself a lovely warm beverage (or cold, whatever floats your boat), settle into a comfy chair and let’s chat.

First up, if you haven’t seen my social posts, the second book in the Magical Underground series, A Djinn and Tonic, came out in December. In this book, Celeste and Tolly travel to Egypt to help an old flame of Tolly’s, meet a demigod, and attempt to prevent a resurrected Sem priest from taking over the world. So, you know, just another Tuesday.

I’m hard at work on book three in the series, which is tentatively titled That Old Plague of Mine, involving a plague that only affects magical creatures, causing devastation in the Magical Quarter of Paris. Hoping to finish the draft of that this year for a spring 2027 release. Yes, I know, but these things take time!

However, fear not! Co-author Susan Wachowski and I have just re-released Atahualpa’s Mummy, the first book in The Harrogate Chronicles, our Gaslamp trilogy. New cover with fantastic art. The second book is coming soon. No, really, very soon. It’s with the formatter now, and cover art is finalized. We’re hoping for an early summer release. And the third and final book, Aztalan’s Idol, will be out before the end of the year too! So you’ll have the answers to these burning questions before New Year’s Eve: Will Kinzy learn how to balance her growing humanity with the demands of her fae overlords? Will Esme and Rafael achieve a détente in their relationship? Will Emperor Bonaparte III take over the rest of Europe with the help of the Fae king? You’ll just have to read the books to find out!

And speaking of “will they, won’t they”, a story of mine was recently accepted into an adorable anthology of second chance romances called Love, Hope, and Second Chances: A Valentine’s Day Anthology. While it’s a contemporary, I just HAD to add in some history, so you’ll get a taste of colonial American life mixed into a cute modern romance. Oh, and there are ghosts too! 😊

Finally… (gasps for breath)… I’ve released the first in a fun little series of historical romance novellas, all set during the Victorian/Edwardian era. The series is called Love and Larceny, and the opening salvo released over the holidays, a delightful tale of two thieves who meet while trying to steal the same painting. It’s called The Christmas Caper. I missed getting the next volume in the series out in time for Valentine’s Day (see Nan’s arm being twisted to write a story for an anthology), so I’ll save that for next February, but I’m hoping to release a few more this year, including The May Day Muddle (probably late June – and that’s a working title), The Gun Powder Plot (ready for release in November) to celebrate Guy Fawkes Day, and The New Year’s Eve Assignment, in mid-December. I’ll keep you posted as dates get finalized.

That’s about it from this corner of the writing universe. I’ve been busy!!

I’m also dropping a link to a brief interview I did while writing at my favorite coffee shop (props to Adriana and all the lovely folks at Conscious Cup Roasters in Crystal Lake, IL) for your viewing pleasure. Ah, writers caught in the wild doing writer things. Unfortunately, I look like a bag lady – I had no idea that morning someone was going to want to memorialize me on film! But it was fun talking about my favorite place to write and why. Check it out!

Bottom line, there’s lots of good stuff coming out this year and next, and I’m so excited to get all of it into your waiting hands. Especially the last book in The Harrogate Chronicles. That book was sooooo satisfying to write.

So tell me! Which of my new or upcoming releases are you most excited about? Drop me a line at my new email address (nan@nansampsonauthor.com) and let me know. And while you’re at it, is there a location you want Celeste and Tolly to visit next?

And now, I must be off. Lord B is a demanding muse, and he is anxious for me to resume work on his next book. (Don’t tell him it’s really Celeste’s book; it’s not worth the ghostly temper tantrum and I’m tired of picking up all the papers from the floor and resorting them onto my desk.)

As always, illegitimi noncarborundum*!

Nan

*PS – yes, I know that’s just baloney Latin, but for those of you new to the party, I’ve been saying it since middle school, and it’s sort of become my catchphrase. So…we’ll pretend it really does mean “Don’t let the bastards get you down”. Just go with it.
